I am delighted to confirm that Minister Phil Hogan has given formal approval of the Preliminary Report Addendum for the Ennis/Clarecastle Sewage Scheme and to the necessary capital funding which will enable Clare County Council to accept the most economically advantageous tender in the amount of €4.67m for the upgrade of the Clonroadmore Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The Clonroadmore Wastewater Treatment plant has proven problematic over the last number of years. This significant funding commitment is welcome news that will deliver extra capacity for further development in Ennis while also preserving the environment and protecting water quality standards.

I want to thank my Government colleague Mr. Phil Hogan TD, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government for taking my concerns on board and for his support for this scheme. This support reflects the Government’s commitment for on-going investment in wastewater schemes which will ensure that discharge into our rivers, lakes and coastal water, meets the highest international standards.
