Deputy Joe Carey TD Statement on anticipated €50 million investment at Ennis General

“There should be no further delay in delivering this project. While a new 50 bed unit does not compare to a total redevelopment of the hospital, it is most welcome. My understanding is that this will become the first fully SARI compliant facility in the country. Such a development will enhance the confidence in the hospital, and improve the standard of healthcare provision in County Clare. Another confidence building measure would be to broaden and enhance the range of services on offer at the hospital. The historical problem with the hospital is one of poor resources. This has to change. Over the last number of years the policy at the hospital has been cut, cut, cut. Ennis Hospital has a vital role to play in healthcare provision in the County. This move is long overdue. Let’s hope for a brighter future for the hospital. I wish the management and staff the very best wishes.”
