“Last night I was honoured to receive the backing of the Fine Gael party at the selection convention in the Auburn Lodge. The decision to nominate and support my participation on the upcoming General Election, is a vote of support on my record over the past three years. There was an undoubted energy and focus on the Auburn Lodge last night, which is a signal of exactly where the party is currently in the national polls.

During my time  as an elected TD, I have sought to best represent the people of County Clare on both local and national issues. I have campaigned strongly on the retention and development of our health services, on a proper plan for Shannon Airport, on stemming the loss of job on the region and getting the Mid-West back working again. I have produced policy documents in the area of unemployment which have been incorporated as part of Fine Gael policy, and once in government, would hopefully form part of the basis of our employment strategy. I have also produced and costed policy document in the whole area of personal debt and bankruptcy, which call for a reform of the manner in which debt is processed in Ireland. This is an issue which is becoming increasingly relevant for both individuals and business.

As part of my work on the Social and Family Affairs  Committee, I raised issues such as homelessness and begging, social welfare reform and protecting some of the most vulnerable members of our socpcoming General Election, is a vote of support on my record over the past three years.
