Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey has welcomed the news that much-needed works on the water mains that serve Miltown Malbay, Mullagh, Coore and Annagh will now take place sooner than anticipated.

The Clare TD has repeatedly raised this issue both with Irish Water and within Government. The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien, this week confirmed these essential water main improvement works will now take place in the third quarter of this year rather than the first three months of next year as originally planned.

The Clare TD said: “I welcome this positive news that these vital upgrade works on the water mains serving Miltown Malbay and surrounding areas will get underway shortly. Water outages have caused huge disruption to local families and businesses for far too long.

“The additional funding provided to Irish Water under the July stimulus has enabled some shovel ready projects to be brought forward. I want to recognise the efforts of Clare County Council, and in particular chief executive Pat Dowling, for his role in helping to get this vital scheme prioritised and I look forward to contractors commencing work on the project as soon as possible.”
