VOLUNTARY groups in Clare are being encouraged to apply for up to  €300,000 in funding to upgrade and refurbish community centres.

Fine Gael TD Joe Carey said that the funding is part of a Government strategy to build stronger and safer communities by making towns, villages and parishes across Clare  better places to live, work, run a business and raise a family.

“Registration is now open for a new €15 million capital fund for the upgrade and refurbishment of Community Centres. This is a very welcome initiative to enable community centres to improve their facilities and I would encourage all community centres, community groups and organisations to register and apply for this funding.

“The Community Centre Investment Fund will provide grants of between €10,000 up to a maximum of €300,000.

“Funding is available for capital works such as improvements to communal facilities such as kitchen and toilet facilities, energy retrofitting, new windows, doors and heating systems as well as works to address safety concerns and works to improve disability access,” Deputy Carey explained.

Applicants must register online at gov.ie/CommunityCentresFund before submitting a formal application. The application process will open on Tuesday, June 7 and closes on Thursday, July 14.
