The South Clare Meals on Wheels service operated by Obair Newmarket on Fergus and the East Clare Community Co-operative have benefitted from the latest allocations from the Dormant Accounts Fund.
According to Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey, €15,000 was allocated to the Meals on Wheels service with the community co-operative receiving €10,242 from the fund which is operated by the Department of Rural and Community Development.
A total of €1 million in funding was allocated to 124 social enterprise projects across the country with the Clare funding being administered by the Clare Local Development Company.
“As Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Rural and Community Development, I am delighted that two very deserving Clare projects were successful in their applications on this occasion.
“While it wasn’t possible to fund more of the social enterprises that applied for funding this year, Minister Michael Ring has told me that he is  reviewing the possibility of making further allocations next year.
“He will also be making an announcement very shortly on funding for Training and Mentoring for Social Enterprises,” Deputy Carey added.
