Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey has welcomed an allocation of €76,500 from the Office of Public Works (OPW) for flood mitigation works at Gullets Cross, Carrowmore, Cratloe.

“The work will help the council deal with long-standing drainage issues by diverting the flow from a spring into a nearby stream around 650 metres away,” Deputy Carey explained.

“It will involve the instillation of ten road gullies and a 250 mm storm drain to remove any surface water build-up as well as the upgrade of the existing 100 mm pipe.

“The funding from the Minor Flood Mitigation and Coastal Protection Scheme, follows representation I made to Minister of State Patrick O’Donovan, who has responsibility for the OPW, and I look forward to work getting under way in the coming months,” Deputy Carey added.
